Marc Huehn, born in 1752, ranks among the founding fathers of the printing industry in the United States. Though hardly recognized nowadays, Mr Huehn legacy lies on building an empire of American printers who have helped revolutionize American history in more ways than one.

Marc originally came from the farming community of Oberschopfheim, Germany where his forefathers tilled the land for wheat. After the death of his father, Marc Huehn, then just 16 years old, journeyed to America with his mother to begin a new life. Along the way, mother and son were sheltered by a family of Boston printers who have unknowingly developed young Huehn’s interest in the printing industry.

After surviving the Boston Tea Party and the American Revolutionary War in 1775, Marc Huehn married a Massachusetts-born daughter of a preacher and settled down in Concord, Massachusetts. Together, husband and wife began building the foundations of the Huehn Printing Press and the Huehn Bookshop that rented newly published books as well as manuscripts imported from all over America and Europe.

For awhile, Marc Huehn struggled with acquiring the movable types necessary to keep up with the demand for books during the later part of 18th century. Nevertheless, the Huehn Printing Press became one of the strongest printing presses in Massachusetts during its time.
