March Huehn: An Illustrator and Artist

Marc Huehn is an South African artist and illustrator who is best known for his paintings of wildlife such as scenic depictions of the South African landscape and wilderness. He was born on May 21, 1926 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Throughout his career he illustrated book and magazine covers for various war novels, romance novels, thrillers, historical fiction and science fiction.

Marc Huehn’s work has been featured in a large number of books, magazines, and advertising posters. He has also co-authored in several art-related books including Beginning Illustration, Techniques in Freehand Drawing, and Drawing for Books and Magazines. His paintings have been featured in various exhibitions around the globe and his works have attracted many art collectors in South Africa.

Although Marc Huehn considers himself to be mostly a self-taught artist, he is attended the University of South Africa where he studied art and illustration. However he found school to be too rigid and boring and dropped out after only two semesters in college. In 1954, he travelled throughout Africa and his travels and experiences served as inspiration for his art. Marc Huehn draws inspiration from the untouched wilderness and forests, and often paints animals and the countryside.
